Classic Spaghetti with Tomato Basil Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 200g (7 oz) dried spaghetti
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (400g / 14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • A handful of fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Spaghetti
    In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Make the Sauce
    In a large pan over medium heat, add olive oil. Sauté the minced garlic for about 30 seconds until fragrant (don’t burn it).
  3. Add Tomatoes & Simmer
    Pour in the crushed tomatoes. Add sugar, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add Fresh Basil
    Stir in the chopped fresh basil just before turning off the heat.
  5. Combine & Serve
    Add the drained spaghetti into the sauce and toss until well coated. Serve hot with grated Parmesan on top if desired.

Tips:

  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
  • This dish pairs well with garlic bread and a fresh salad.
